Below is an example lesson structure, to give an idea of what is generally involved in a lesson. This is just one of many diffrent lesson plans we follow.
The Students line up around the mats and bow.
The Sifu (teacher) then guides the students through a series of exercises. These are done every lesson, though the actual exercises do vary. The exercises are not overly strenuos. Students are encouraged to push their own personal limits rather than the limits of others in the class. The exercises are there as a warm up rathe than for fitness though the exercises practiced will help improve a students fitness level if done more often away from the club at their own descretion.
The Sifu (teacher) guides the students through a series of simple stretches. These are done every lesson so that students do not damage themselves. Again students are encouraged to push their own limits but not to go beyond, stopping if neccisary.
People of the same sash go into groups and work on techniques for their next exam. The sifus (teachers) will teach each group seperately and will advise students on the techniques they are learning.
All members of the class come together to be taught certain techniques that will benefit all the class. This can take any form. In this example in would likely take the form of knife or cosh defence techniques to warm up for the cobat exercise.
Students form a circle and one goes in the middle. Each student is given a number and either a cosh or knife. When a students number is called they must go to the student in the middle and attack them with the weapon they are carrying. The student in the middle will then react with one of the techniques they have been taught in the class.
Beginners will not be expected to take part in this exercise for a number of weeks and when they do it is done slowly so that they can get used to the situation. The speed of the attacks will increase to coincide with the students own confidence and are always done safely.
At the end of the lesson students line up again and bow.
